Making toys for charities
Hobby activities, like other arts and craft activities, are organized and managed by clubs. Membership in any of the clubs is open to all residents. Facilities for hobbies are provided by the CA. Special equipment as may be needed to support a hobby is donated by members of the hobby club. Additional information on club activities can be obtained by contacting the person in charge of the club (listed in the Membership Directory) or by calling the CA Office.

AMATEUR RADIO CLUB
Purpose: To promote and encourage interest in the science and engineering of radio and to provide training in the requirements for various Federal radio licensing levels. Provide communications for our community during times of emergency.
Membership: Any member of the Community Association. Residents of Kings Point are invited to participate in our meetings and activities. Annual dues are $10.00.
Meetings: Regular club meetings are held the first Wednesdays except June through September, starting at 2:00 PM in the Florida Room in the Atrium Building.
Equipment: The club radio room is located in the Old Town Hall building in the central campus. Transmission on HF, VHF and UHF Amateur Radio frequency bands is accomplished by means of state-of-the-art professional equipment, and an efficient antenna array. The equipment is available for emergency use at all times.
SUN CITY CENTER AUDUBON SOCIETY
Purpose: To promote an understanding of, and interest in, all wildlife and the environment that supports it; and to further the cause of conservation of natural resources for the benefit of posterity.
Meetings: Held first Saturday, October through April, in Community Hall (December meeting held in Florida Room) 9:30 to 11:30 A.M.
Trips: Various field trips to see and watch birds and animals. Also have one overnight trip to areas of interest throughout the State.
Equipment: Good walking shoes for field trips. Field glasses come in handy; eyes and ears to enjoy and learn from our monthly meetings.
Comment: We are an affiliate member of National Audubon. Our speakers and presentations are a great way to learn about "the birds and the bees."
CYGNET YACHT CLUB (Model boats)
Purpose: To promote the hobby of model ship sailing. Specifically we race radio-controlled East Coast 12-Meter One Design Sailboats.
Meetings: Monday and Thursday mornings (In good weather) starting at 8:00 AM at Swan Lake on the lawn next to the tennis courts and parking lot on Cherry Hills Drive.
Membership: Open to Community Association Members. Annual dues are $5.00, plus a one time charge of $10.00. It is expected that each member will strive to own a mini-yacht measuring 5 feet long with a 6-foot mast conforming to specifications of the American Model Yachting Association.
ELEGANT GARDEN CLUB
Purpose: To exchange ideas and to provide information on botanical matters appropriate to Sun City Center residents.
Membership: Open to all Community Association Members.
Meetings: Second Wednesdays, October through May starting at 10:00 AM in Room 3 of Community Hall. Monthly speakers plus a plant exchange. Field trips may be scheduled to nurseries and botanical gardens.
MODEL RAILROAD CLUB

Purpose: Members have an HO-Gauge model railroad comprising a collection of features attractive to the club members. Realistic scenery includes generic eastern grasses, shrubs and trees. Models of buildings are extensively used throughout. CSX is used as a model for existence of a fully operating model railroad.

Membership: Open to all Community Association members. Annual dues are $30.00 plus a one-time charge of $50.00 for the computer control system. No previous knowledge of trains is needed.
Meetings: Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 1:00 - 3:00 PM. The model is located at 915 North Course Ln, adjacent ot the Sawdust Engineer's building.
PHOTO CLUB
Purpose: To promote interest and participation in photography as a hobby
Membership: Open to all Community Association members. Annual dues are $20 per person or $30 per household couple.
Meetings: Second Tuesday of every month throughout the year in the Caper Room (Atrium Building, Central Campus), starting at 7:00 pm.
Equipment available: computers with software for enhancing photos and for creating slide shows; large format printers, scanners for prints and slides; a portrait studio and an object studio for closeup photos. The Photo Lab is located in the Old Town Hall Building on Central Campus and is open during posted hours, usually Monday through Friday 9 am until noon.
Comment: Competitions are held three times per year. Courses are offered to members in various software programs and photographic techniques. Field trips for members are occasionally offered. The club’s website is located at http://www.photoclubscc.com
TILLERS AND TOILERS
Purpose: For those who wish to have a small vegetable or flower garden, socialize, and compare notes with other gardeners. A limited number of garden plots, each measuring approximately 15 x 75 feet, are available to club members.
Membership: Open to all CA members inerested n gardening. Annual dues are $10 per garden plot.
Meetings: An annual meeting is held on the first Wednesday of November.
Comments: Water is available at each plot. The middle of September starts the fall garden season, but some crops are grown year-round. The gardening plots are located just off West Del Webb Boulevard.
