ART CLUB

Purpose: Art appreciation and participation.

Membership: Open to artists and those who appreciate art who are Sun City Center CA members and Kings Point residents. Dues are $15.00 per year starting in September.

Meetings: Meetings: Third Monday of each month at 1pm from September through May in the Rollins Theater. Programs include demonstrations.

For a small fee, professional artists conduct art classes and workshops for members, in various media, in the club room. An annual Art Show is held, usually in February. The Club runs an Art Gallery next to the club room. Open times are 10 to 1 on Tuesday and Thursday. Shows vary throughout the year, and openings are held for new shows.

The Art Club also organizes trips to area museums and art shows, maintains a lending library of art books and periodicals, sponsors a House Tour, and conducts social events throughout the year. For further information, view the Club's official website at www.artclubofscc.org.

BUNKA ARTS

Purpose: To learn the techniques and practice the art of Bunka Embroidery using the Japanese method.

Membership: Open to all CA Members. Annual dues are $5.00.

Meetings: Every Monday and Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M in the Arts and Crafts Building. Beginners receive instructions and assistance from 10:00 AM to Noon, .

A Bunka Art Show is held once a year to display the pictures completed during the previous 12 months.

CERAMICS

Purpose: To practice and offer instruction in the art of Ceramics.

Membership: Open to all CA Members. Dues are modest.

Meetings: Daily from 8:30 - 4:00 P.M. in the Ceramics Room. An instructor is present Monday through Friday. Two general membership meetings per year; February and November.

Projects donated to the Club by members are sold with all proceeds going to charity.

CHINA PAINTING

Purpose: To learn techniques and practice the art of painting on porcelain.

Membership: Open to all CA Members. Annual dues are $10.00.

Open: 12:30 to 3:30 PM on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the Arts and Crafts Building.

Classes and "paint alongs" are available.

Club Meetings: 1st Thursday of each month. September through May at 1 PM.

Equipment Available: Kilns for china to be fired.

Supplies Available for Purchase: paints, solvents and white china for painting.

CRAFTS & THINGS

Purpose: To enjoy making and decorating various items, such as swags, baskets, hats, wreaths, centerpieces, paper crafts and much more.

Membership: Open to any CA Member. Annual dues are $5.00.

Meetings: Craft classes meet on the first and third Wednesday of the month at 1:00 P.M. in the Sandpiper Room. We meet the months of September through May.

Crafts for sale are on display in the Pelican Room Window. All proceeds from the sale of items in the window, the Holiday Bazaar in November and the Fun Fest held in March are donated to charity.

NEEDLECRAFTERS

Purpose: To be able to meet, have fun working together, and make many beautiful gift items with the help of others in the club.

Membership: Open to any CA Member who can knit, crochet, sew, or who has an interest in needlework crafts. There is a one-time donation of $1.00 to join our club. There are no annual dues.

Meetings: Our shop is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. We meet on Monday and Wednesday of each week for group projects.

Comment: Our work is available for purchase in our shop in the Arts and Crafts Building. All proceeds are donated to charity.

NEEDLEPOINTERS

Purpose: To share a mutual appreciation of Needlepoint and/or Counted Cross Stitch; to enjoy the camaraderie that comes with exchanging ideas and techniques; and to learn and practice techniques used in all forms of needlework.

Membership: Open to any CA Member with an interest in needlework. Annual dues are $5.00.

Meetings: Tuesday afternoons, 1:00 - 3:00 PM in the Arts and Crafts Building. An instructor is present to introduce new ideas, and to help. Members may work on individual projects or may participate in group projects.

POTTERS WHEEL

Purpose: To provide a basis for meeting to practice the art of pottery, to learn new skills and techniques, meet with people who have similar interests.

Membership: Open to any CA Member. There is a small annual dues. All newcomers are taught hand building and/or wheel throwing in addition to the use of other pieces of equipment which includes work tables, wedge tables, potter's wheels, a slab roller, extruder, kilns, hand tools and glazes.

Comment: Members reimburse the club for the cost of clay used to complete a project they undertake, including firing and glazing.

SAWDUST ENGINEERS

Purpose: To design, construct and distribute such therapeutic type toys, educational aids, games, devices and furniture as requested by various schools, clinics, hospitals, and other charitable groups.

Membership: Open to all CA Members. All new members must attend a short safety course. Annual dues are $3.00.

Comment: The woodworking shop is always available to members who want to build their own projects, or to contribute time and skill to aid in continuing the purposes of our club. The shop is equipt with power woodworking equipment of all kinds including table saws, radial arm saws, bandsaws, planers, joiners, routers, sanders, drills, clamps, etc. An efficient vacuum system keeps the room free of sawdust. The room is open Monday through Saturday, 8 AM - 4 PM.

SEW 'N SEWS

Purpose: Provides a place and equipment for the experienced or novice stitcher or quilter to learn new techniques, to share in the joy of creating something beautiful, and to enjoy great fellowship.

Membership: Open to any CA Member. Annual dues are $10.

Meetings: Meetings are held each day in the Arts and Crafts Building.

Comment: The Sewing Room has 15 sewing machines, including 2 electronic machines with embroidery capabilities, and 3 sergers. There are cutting tables, irons and ironing boards, mirrors, etc. Demonstrations and special classes are given by club members and local instructors proficient in diverse areas of quilting, tailoring and creative sewing.

SHELLCRAFTERS

Purpose: To study seashells and shell crafts, and to create objects made primarily of seashells. Proceeds from the sale of items are donated to charitable, non-profit organizations.

Membership: Open to all CA Members. Annual dues are modest.

Meetings: The club meets every weekday in the Arts and Crafts Building. A business meeting combined with a social event is held twice a year.

Comments: Each club member is expected to contribute to the shell craft gift shop sales room that is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

STAINED GLASS

Purpose: To enhance the enjoyment of developing stained glass skills and to provide a means of socializing with others who share similar interests.

Membership: Open to all CA Members. Annual dues are $10.00. Anyone interested in this versatile art is encouraged to come into the studio, browse and talk with the Members. New members can sign up for Beginners classes.

Meetings: The club meets in the Arts and Crafts Building every weekday from 9:00 AM to Noon. General Membership meetings are held on the second Saturday of every month, September through May, starting at 10:00 AM.

TAI-PAN BUNKA

Purpose: To create, teach and exhibit the beautiful "painting with thread" art created using Japanese Bunka Embroidery techniques. Club members learn this art by using the techniques from Japanese companies and the Canadian company, Thread Artists International.

Membership: Open to any CA Member interested in this artform.

Meetings: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 AM - Noon for lessons, assistance, or just a workshop, in a friendly, casual atmosphere. Beginners are welcome to start any day. The workshop is in the Art and Crafts Building. Come see our pictures in progress and have one of our members demonstrate Bunka embroidery.

WEAVERS GUILD

Purpose: To promote the art of weaving, to provide instruction and equipment, and to maintain a weaving studio for the members.

Membership: Open to all CA Members. Annual dues are $10, and a one-time donation of $35 is requested to maintain and replenish the guild looms and other equipment. New members are taught by volunteers; beginners learn the basic fundamentals by weaving a basic project; after that members progress at their own skill and imagination level.

Meetings: Guild meetings are on the second Wednesday of each month, September through April in the Guild weaving room. The room is open Monday through Wednesday, 9:00 AM to Noon and 1:00 - 4:00 PM. Thursday and Friday the room is open 9:00 AM - Noon. Visitors are always welcome.

WOODCARVING

Purpose: Our goal is to advance member's skill in ALL areas of woodcarving. We believe that you can learn to carve in a short period of time and your life will be greatly enriched from making beautiful works to share with friends and family.

Membership: Open to all CA Members. We presently have about 90 members meeting every Thursday (9 AM) in our state-of-art full time workshop adjacent to the Saw Dust Engineers Shop near the SCC Atrium. Dues are $15 a year.

Open Classes: Full range of woodcarving including Beginner, Bird, Chip Carving, Carving-in-the-Round, Recess Carving (3-D), Wood Burning (a form of carving wood with a thermostatically controlled "hot knife".) All varies by season.

Equipment: Basic set of carving tools, including wood burners, maybe used in shop by new members. Catalogs on file to purchase you own.

Supplies: Many kinds and sizes of carving woods as well as "rough outs" of animals and things are also available from Club inventory for members to purchase.
